Commitee Profile

The Chiltern Basketball Club has two committees.

The Main Committee is responsible for the running of the Club as a whole and also the Senior Men and Ladies sections. It meets every two months and consists of coaches, players and parents.

The Junior Committee is primarily responsible for the running of the Junior sections of the Club (both Boys and Girls) although ideas and suggestions are passed through to the Main Committee, where relevant. It meets three or four times a season (as required) and both parents and older players from the Junior sections are welcome to join.

A Club Annual General Meeting is held every year in May in the Hall of the Parish Church of All Saints in Castle Street, High Wycombe. Everyone is welcome to attend.

If you are interested in joining one or both of the Committees then please speak to one of the coaches or send us an email.

COMMITTEE MEMBERS

Rod Cooke: Chairman and Club Coach (Main and Junior Committees)

I am a retired purchasing manager and have been involved in basketball for over 50 years, with a good many of those years with the Chiltern Basketball Club. I have an EBBA level 3 coaching qualification and an EBBA level 1 refereeing qualification. I have been CRB approved and I am the Child Protection Officer for the Club

Malcolm Jamieson: Treasurer (Main Committee)

I was a teacher for 30 years and currently work as a training Officer for Bucks County Council. My involvement with basketball goes back to school days (a very long time ago) and, over the years, I have qualified as a level 2 referee officiating at local and National League level. I am also a qualified table official and a level 1 coach. My involvement with the Club has been as a player and an officer. My other involvement in sport is as a tennis referee and a rugby referee assessor. However, the Club has given me many years of enjoyment and friendship which I hope will be also felt by the membership.

Jon Beale: Ladies Coach (Main Committee)

I have been involved with Chiltern Basketball Club for the last 20 years playing chiefly but I have also held a number of Committee positions in the past. I still play for the Men’s team but my main focus at present is coaching the Ladies team. I enjoyed returning to the position last year and I am looking forward to the season ahead although it can always be a little tricky when your wife plays on the team! I am an EBBA qualified coach, referee and table official and as a teacher have a full CRB check.

Charlotte Gale: Junior Girls and Mini Basketball Coach
(Charlotte is not currently on either of the Committees but has been included here for information as she is the Girls Coach.)

Having found a passion for the game at the age of 15 I went on to play at University including South West England Universities and a number of National League teams. It was during this time and while training to become a PE teacher that I attended and gained my EBBA Level 1 and 2 coaching qualifications. As part of my job role as a teacher and coaching for the club I am fully CRB checked and regularly update my emergency first aid knowledge. For continuing coach development I attend Sports Coach UK training courses to keep up to date with current coaching issues and developments. This is the 4th year that I have coached the girls section of Chiltern Basketball Club, the Chiltern Challengers, and I look forward to many more seasons to come.

Chris Knapman: Club Secretary and Junior Boys Coach (Main Committee)

I have been playing basketball since school days, having been coached initially by my father, a PE teacher. I joined the RAF in 1982 and have played at club level on and off ever since. I moved back to Medmenham in 2006, following 3 years spent working and playing basketball in the USA. I now work at HQ Air Command, RAF High Wycombe and coach the U14 boys (for which I have CRB approval), including my own son Will. I continue to struggle through the Senior’s training sessions, making the occasional appearance off the bench for the team.

Gareth Taylor: Men’s First Team Secretary (temporary) (Main Committee)

Basketball is in the DNA, my father and mother both competed at National League level, and my twin sisters have both represented England in the sport. Unfortunately, it would appear I did not get the dominant ‘basketball’ gene having plied my trade in local leagues all around the country. A graduate of the Nottingham Nova Centurion system, I have been fortunate to have played basketball for and with a number of very talented individuals and great friends – many of whom I have played pick-up games with/against as I returned to hold haunts. It is this love for the sport, the fitness levels achieved and the friendships that I have made, which drives my desire to ensure the next generation of basketball players in the High Wycombe area enjoy the sport which can serve them well throughout their adult life. EBBA Coach and referee qualified, CRB Enhanced checked and a qualified first aider, I look forward to the season ahead as both coach to the juniors and Team Secretary to the Chiltern Fastbreak Senior Men’s team……. KNEES AND BACK PERMITTING!
