Review of 2008/09
Chiltern Challengers are now in their fourth season and have seen a steady increase in numbers during 2008 – 2009. This is pleasing and makes it even more essential for the club to ensure they have a competition to enter next season. This will allow the girls to have something to aim towards and get excited about.
Competition in the CVL junior girls section was good and Chiltern Challengers were at the top of the league table when the girls section of the league collapsed due to other teams pulling out of the competition. Despite this, training numbers have remained good and the girls have successfully played in a number of friendly games for enjoyment purposes and also to further develop their games awareness and skills.
The earlier training time on a Wednesday has enabled Phil Hill to make a successful transition up in to the Ladies section of the club. Phil has made herself available continuously throughout the season for both training and games and as a result her game has developed no end.
We need to have a girls presence on the Junior Committee and anyone, parents or players, interested in volunteering and becoming a part of the club development programme should let their interest be known to me or the club committee.
The summer training sessions have seen a drop off in attendance from the girls but I think this is due to their exam commitments and am certain they will attend again once this period is over. The girls have missed an element of competition this year and I feel it is essential to ensure they are entered in to a league of some sort for next year. I believe this will enable us to maintain the current numbers attending the girls training and also continue to recruit as a club to ensure numbers stay buoyant.
