Review of 2009/10
The ladies have had a mixed season. Training started in September with a few new faces and the discovery that a few others had left. Fatou and Bex had move away and Vicky had decided to retire but we welcomed Belinda, Claudia, Nicole and Magda. We also had a few more casual players joining us for training sessions a couple of whom jopined later in the season and will hopefully progress to the team next year. We were grateful to Jon who agreed to coach the Ladies team again this season
The ladies entered the Wessex League again this year, with the same format as last year, play all the teams once before Christmas and then split the League into two Divisions and each team in the Division plays home and away between Christmas and Easter.
For the first stage of the season the team had mixed success with a P11 W5 L6 record. This was just enough to secure the 6th place overall and when the League split we were the last team to qualify for the Div 1. The results against the teams placed in Div 2 were scrubbed from the table and the remaining results used to start the Div 1 table. This unfortunately positioned the ladies team in last place with a P5 W0 L5 record. Things could only improve.
A mixed start to the second half of the season followed, partly caused by postponed matches and training sessions because of the snow. In addition we had to say goodbye to Madga in February as she returned home to continue her studies. As the end of the season approached the team started to play better with victories over the teams that finished second and third in the table. The results from after Christmas were P10 W4 L6, but because of the record carried over from the first stage of the season the overall record was P15 W4 L11, this saw us finish in 5th place, an improvement of one place from Christmas.
We would like to thank Jon for coaching us, all the table officials and referees and all our supporters. We look forward to September and the start of the next season.
